AIDS Project Worcester

AIDS Project Worcester (APW) was established in 1987 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Initially, it was formed to provide education about HIV/AIDS and support services to individuals and families affected by the disease. Over the years, APW has evolved into the primary provider of non-medical HIV/AIDS support services in Central Massachusetts. The organization is headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts, and has expanded its reach through strategic locations in Leominster and Southbridge.

AIDS Project Worcester exists to enhance the lives and health of people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C (HCV), and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The organization focuses on advocacy, education, and collaborative initiatives to achieve its mission.

APW supports individuals living with HIV/AIDS, those at risk for HIV, and individuals affected by Hepatitis C and other STIs. The organization also extends its services to the LGBTQ+ community, particularly youth, and those dealing with substance use disorders.

APW engages in a variety of activities, including:

• Advocacy for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and related social issues
• Educational programs and initiatives to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and STIs
• Direct support programs, including case management and psychosocial services
• Health promotion services, such as testing and counseling for HIV, HCV, and STIs

APW provides comprehensive support to patients and their families, including:

• Educational materials and workshops on HIV/AIDS, STIs, and related health topics
• Direct support services, such as case management, housing assistance, and transportation
• Nutrition programs, including a food bank and community garden
• Mental health services, including counseling and support groups
• Peer support programs to empower individuals living with HIV

APW has been recognized for its innovative service delivery models and prevention/education programs. The organization has successfully implemented a triage evaluation system for client services, which has been adopted by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Additionally, APW's prevention and education program targeting men who have sex with men is considered a model for similar initiatives in the region.
